Nicole Alden

DESIGNER
Nicole is a landscape designer who strongly values the restorative capacity of landscapes. She holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the UBC and a Bachelor of Art from Mount Holyoke College. With a background in visual art, she brings an interest in graphic communication and expressive design.
Nicole is particularly captivated by inclusive landscapes that spark social engagement across generations and identities. As a designer, she strives to enhance connections between built form, site narrative, and ecological systems. She firmly believes in continuous learning and keen observation of our habitual environments, participating in a regular sketching practice of British Columbia’s rich environments.

Ana-Maria Alvarado
ACTING OFFICE MANAGER
Ana-Maria is the acting office manager at space2place, where she brings experience in international project management and political science. She is well-prepared for any challenge, thanks to her Bachelor's degree from the University of British Columbia and a Post-Graduate Certificate from Humber College.
Ana-Maria's understanding of humanities gives her a unique perspective on how architectural design relates to land, people, and animals. In addition to her love for animals and more specifically her dog Ocho, it motivates her interest in how city landscapes change in need of its inhabitants of all species.

Jeff Cutler

PRINCIPAL
Jeff is the principal and founder of space2place. He has spent the last 25 years advancing the field of landscape architecture in Canada by leading complex design and planning projects. Jeff is constantly challenging conventional approaches and testing new technologies to create holistic solutions to today's challenges.
Jeff has received over 30 national awards for his skill in developing sensitive and innovative design solutions for a wide range of public and private projects over the years. In 2021, he was awarded the title of Fellow in the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects for his outstanding contributions to the field.

Somaye Hooshmand
CSLA, BCSLA
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT
Somaye Hooshmand is an accomplished landscape architect and urban designer whose work incorporates natural elements to create warm and inviting public spaces. She is especially conscious of the fact that places are for people; that they should be functional, experiential, and capable of enhancing human wellbeing through good design.
With a Bachelor of Architecture, Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Shahid Beheshti (Tehran), and another Master of Landscape Architecture from UBC, she brings both technical knowledge and creative flair to every project. She has been working for Space2place since 2011 and her innovative designs have earned her several awards.

Louisa Kennett
BCSLA Intern
DESIGNER
Louisa brings a passion for designing landscapes that protect and enhance biodiversity while connecting people to the natural world. Her research and design work has explored how underused urban spaces can be reclaimed through participatory design to foster social and environmental resilience.
Louisa holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Queen’s University, specializing in ecology and evolutionary biology. She is motivated by the increasingly important role of landscape architecture in helping communities adapt to climate change, especially in coastal cities like Vancouver.

Laura Macdonald

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT
Laura Macdonald joined space2place in 2021 and has over a decade of experience in the field of landscape architecture. She combines her love of plants with technical expertise in managing urban plaza projects, contract administration, and all phases of landscape architecture and urban design projects. Her enthusiasm for problem solving shines through as she works with clients, consultants, and contractors to develop creative solutions.
Laura developed an early interest in flora in her family's gardens, which she now pursues as a Landscape Architect. She is dedicated to projects that improve community life and upholds high standards of excellence from concept to completion.

Alison Maddaugh
CSLA, BCSLA
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT
Alison is a skilled project manager who is deeply committed to the quality of the public realm. She uses her knowledge to create dynamic, engaging environments with generative processes that invite collective skill and vision while ensuring broader project goals are met throughout design and construction.
Her exceptional skill set in landscape architecture, aesthetics, and outdoor play research has resulted in numerous award-winning projects. Alison graduated from UBC with a Master of Landscape Architecture and a Bachelor of Fine Arts, both of which she received scholarships for. She also continued her design studies in Sweden and the Netherlands. Alison has been with space2place since 2008.

Ray Pang
LEED AP (BD+C)
PROJECT MANAGER/DESIGNER
Ray, an accomplished environmental designer, combines eight years of practical experience with a strong educational background. Holding Bachelor and Master degrees from Beijing Forestry University, Ray excels in sustainable urban development and complex design challenges. He has led key projects like Shanghai TOD and Shenzhen Longgang Riverfront, managing detailed design and on-site implementation.
Ray's work on China's "Sponge City" initiatives showcases his ecological expertise and commitment to innovative urban solutions. As HASSELL Shanghai's Design Technology Leader, Ray pioneered advanced 3D modeling techniques, enhancing project visualization and efficiency. His ongoing Master of Engineering Leadership at UBC strengthens his multidisciplinary approach.

Kelsey Stankovich
DESIGNER
Kelsey’s work is driven by notions of social engagement, exchange and collaboration—she is particularly interested in using design as a tool to facilitate these ideas—throughout the design process, as well as in the design outcome. She believes that by integrating research, collaborative practices and creativity, we have the ability to create resilient design solutions that cater to a variety of complex needs.
Kelsey is a landscape designer with a background in the visual arts. She holds a Master of Art and Design from Auckland University of Technology and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Unitec Institute of Technology. Kelsey is currently on maternity leave.

Siyun Xue

DESIGNER
Siyun is a landscape designer who is committed to creating places that are delightful and engaging, while successfully addressing the needs of both natural and built environments.
Siyun completed her undergraduate degree in Environmental design in China, and then pursued her graduate studies in Landscape Architecture at the University of Toronto. Her longstanding passion for art drives her to focus on the harmonious combination of functionality and aesthetics, ensuring that her landscape designs are both practical and visually appealing.
